Applications Trainer

The role of the Applications Trainer is to develop and conduct training programs for new and existing Care Centers as well as train new and existing employees.  The Applications Trainer will support users on the full suite of eClinicalWorks (eCW) and other Applications as necessary.  This role will train users on the eCW system, assist with eCW upgrades by validating both the test and production environments, create and update eCW documentation, assist with enhancements to eCW, assist creation of handouts and videos.  The Applications Trainer will work with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, office managers and other staff to ensure that the EMR enhances provider productivity and the delivery of patient care.

Responsibilities: Essential Functions:

  • Develops training programs for new and existing care centers as well as train new and existing employees.
  • Formulates teaching outline and determines instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings and workshops.
  • Develops, prepares and leads training sessions in group and one-on-one settings.
  • Perform customizations and add on’s to eCW as needed by staff such as adding selectable options (e.g. pharmacies), updating internal contacts and other functions.
  • Conducts user training for eCW system upgrades, test enhancements and upgrades, provide ongoing support and training documentation.
  • Assist with system implementation, template design, upgrades, system support, enhancements and report creation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the eCW system.
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of the eCW system to train and assist users.
  • Creates e-learning tips and training materials including handouts and videos.
  • Develops, coordinates and monitors clinical training schedules.
  • Conducts training sessions covering specified areas such as on-the-job training, refresher training, etc.
  • Assesses and reports on trainees’ learning performance to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training.  Identifies need for additional, specialized, or adaptive instruction.
  • Develops strong relationships with the clinical, front desk, operations and RCM developments to develop course materials, receive feedback, and jointly develop workflow policies.
  • Assists with new practice acquisition by providing onsite support and competency assessments.
  • Performs all eCW training as part of new employee orientation.
  • Develops and prepares workflow suggestions for EMR in all departments.
  • Works with management to develop and provide communications on system updates.
  • Provides technical support to eCW users over the phone.
  • Maintains records of completed training.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Understanding of care center workflows and ability to make recommendations of how to best utilize the new EMR system to meet the user’s needs to aid in patient care.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of people at all levels of the organization.  Able to interact with all practice personnel to facilitate training on the EMR.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Associates degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience
  • At least 2 years previous experience in a training capacity
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of eCW applications
  • At least two years prior experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or related software
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 2-3 years clinical prior EMR experience
  • Prior training experience in a healthcare environment
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a varity of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.  Ability to think through system logic to troubleshoot user issues.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in email, document writing, presentation applications, EMR applications and internet software.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Must be able to observe trainees’ performance on the computer.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position.  Days and hours of work vary.
This position is primarily remote but may require occasional travel to our Home Office or Care Centers throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
